Commissioner Alli-Balogun Addresses 36th ANCOPSS Annual Congress

In a bid to revitalize the commitment of teachers, the Lagos State Government has urged educators to take their responsibilities seriously and maintain punctuality in classrooms. This charge was emphasized by Hon. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, during the 36th Annual Congress of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS).

The congress, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, focused on the theme “Towards Sustainable Basic And Secondary Education In Lagos State. A Holistic Approach.”

Expressing his concerns, Commissioner Alli-Balogun shared his dismay at finding vacant classrooms during visits to schools, emphasizing the need for teachers to prioritize punctuality. He acknowledged the challenges faced by teachers and assured them that the government would address their welfare, highlighting Lagos State’s reputation for prompt payment of salaries.

The Commissioner recounted a recent encounter with a teacher in Abuja facing salary delays, emphasizing that Lagos State remains committed to supporting its educators. He disclosed ongoing recruitment efforts by the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) to hire nearly 4,000 teachers on a quarterly basis. Additionally, plans to create staff quarters for teachers were announced, with details to be communicated soon.

Addressing concerns about safety and welfare, Commissioner Alli-Balogun urged teachers to identify common challenges, support each other, and ensure the well-being of their students.

The ANCOPSS congress featured insights from Pastor Akinropo Emmanuel Ijaodola, the immediate Past President of Osun State/South-West Block & ANCOPSS 2nd National Vice President. He highlighted the uniqueness of the congress, providing a platform for reevaluating education and addressing challenges.

The President of ANCOPSS, Lagos State, Comrade Maseyi Olusola Abayomi, expressed satisfaction with the success of the congress. He emphasized the need to address issues like drug abuse, bullying, rape, immorality, kidnapping, and sexual assault, focusing on motivating children with positive messages.

Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino declared the congress open, encouraging teachers to set good examples and stay current in the computer age.

The event celebrated Muntary Zaradeen, who received the 2023 ANCOPSS Award, recognizing outstanding contributions to education. The congress aimed to motivate teachers, address challenges, and foster collaboration for a sustainable educational system.
